Just a week or so ago, I ran across a term I had not heard before: "The Long Tail." It describes a concept I had not directly thought about before in such concrete terms, but had abstractly felt the effects of, for quite awhile. It details how, in a group of people (think of a pyramid), the base has the least reach/authority/button when you consider one individual, but a tremendous influence if you can harness most of the people comprising the base.

Then, as usually happens, I started coming across many blogs that described various ways in which that concept applied to specific groups, situations and mechanisms.
